Over Night Camping
Starting at $225/person - Minimum Overnight Stay - **10 photos included
The extended Linville Gorge Circuit or Appalachian Trail Guided Hike requires a minimum of an overnight stay in the wilderness. For these hikes we equip you with tents, sleeping bags, trekking poles, breakfast and dinner meals. The extended guided hike option offers the chance to custom tailor your itinerary to include guided high elevation summits, guided backcountry fishing, teambuilding and wilderness survival classes upon request. The Linville Gorge is a 12,002-acre tract of designated wilderness where no logging has ever taken place, virgin forest and primeval density deter amateur hikers because of unmarked and difficult to follow trailheads. We at Hikemore Adventures know this area by heart however.
Linville Gorge Wilderness Circuit is a 34 mile network of various entangled trails that leads the hikers through 4 major summits of Hawksbill Mt, Table Rock Mt, Sitting Bear Mt. and Shortoff Mt. and over 13 miles of pristine fishing on Linville River. The Linville Gorge Loop Trail is considered to be the toughest hiking circuit east of the Rockies, but we can tailor your tour to your physical abilities. We know which trails do not present extreme elevation changes but still provide scenic views and we can incorporate mountaintop campsites, moderate hiking and fishing even for the novice hiking enthusiasts.
Guided Waterfall Tours
Starting at $100/person - 4 hours - **10 photos included
There is a great variety of waterfalls through out Pisgah National Forest ranging from 6 to 400 feet high. For these guided hiking trips we provide trekking poles, hammocks, fishing gear and a picnic style meal. Of course ten professional photo edits of you and your loved ones are also included as usual! Did you know that Linville Falls are famous not only for their spectacular scenery but also for their spectacular geology? It is the only place in the world where one may clearly see 540-million-year-old quartzite BELOW the 745-million-year-old metamorphosed granite. Want to find out why? Come see for yourself as you hang out in a hammock, enjoy a meal by the campfire and spend the day swimming and fishing in secret swimming holes.
This isn't your normal photography workshop with overlooks and easy to reach locations that are attainable by any able bodied photographer. To get the images that make jaws drop and people take notice, you have to go deeper, push further and be in the locations when the light is happening! Of course this Photography Adventure has an itinerary... that we"ll try our best to stick with but also offer a more spontaneous pursuit of the best light, conditions and experience for our clients. While most "workshops" have clients stay at hotels after sessions are finished for the day, we provide backcountry camping gear for you. Sleeping in our desired locations is the best atmosphere to react and respond as conditions unfold. Many of natures best moments happen when you least expect; therefore, our group will be on site and ready to capture. Part of the wilderness experience is camping in the elements and this workshop will definitely provide those conditions and landscapes. Our group will traverse the rugged landscape of the Linville Gorge and surrounding areas capturing the incredible light and canyon-like formations. All gear is provided along with our hearty base camp meals, field instruction, post processing techniques and social media branding and strategies. You don't wanna miss this one of a kind adventure!
For thousands of years work and life in the wild always followed a natural division of labor. Some were hunters. Some craftsmen, some herbalists and medicine men. Some were experts at shelter construction, and some were specialists at tool production. Each environment, whether it were the Kalahari Desert or the Polynesian Islands, lent itself to synergy among its indigenous cultures. Synergy, simply put, is the creation of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. In our team building exercises it reveals itself through frequent repetition of particular tasks assigned to each individual that comprises the total unit of our camp. There is a certain "flow" or "way" of being most efficient, productive and in tune with nature which once achieved by you as an individual within a cohesive group translates to your individual and communal life later as a member of your family, sports team, music band or corporate team.
Each class is tailored to the specific needs of our client. Our team building exercises include map/navigation challenges, games, and initiatives designed to perfect communication skills, avoiding conflict, group decision making without the use of voting, evaluating seemingly overwhelming tasks and breaking them down into manageable steps and building a deeper bond through cooperation, communication, self reliance and most importantly - trust in others to perform their task efficiently and correctly.
We offer short one day workshops where we invite groups to take on map/compass orientation challenges, perform alpine style rescue scenarios to build teamwork, and play various games to promote listening and creative thinking skills. Also, we invite groups to learn and perform basic wilderness living skills (please refer to our wilderness survival class description) and then impart those specific skills onto others at the end of the day thus simulating a community having to independently fare for itself, living without the modern benefits of electricity, running water, heating and television.
However, we highly recommend spending several days hiking and camping. The extended time spent together in the wilderness allows us to incoproprate our teambuilding games, challenges and initiatives into the most natural and most reliable method of teambuilding - covering large distances as a group while each member learns and performs firebuilding, water purification, shelter construction, backcountry cooking techniques and then imparts this skill to the next member of their group.
If the wood is too wet, and the fire is not set the meal is not cooked in time. This can reverberate on quality of constructed shelter, orientation, and psychological dynamic. Oftentimes a single simple glitch or a bad decision can have a domino effect of negative repercussions on the entire group and even the chances of survival. At the end of your team building exercise you will walk away with a remarkable feeling, an effect often experienced in reflection after the trip. It is a feeling of accomplishment and brotherhood.
